Mr.
Leng Chhay would like to introduce his own transliteration
system to support expatriates to learn some Khmer terms. He has
a simplified system, using English letters, without using
special symbols, to pronounce the Khmer terms in English sounds.
The purpose is to make it easy to pronounce Khmer words without
using much combination of vowels. Like other systems, this
system has also some limitation that some English
transliterations will not have exact sounds like Khmer.
Below are some
transliterations organized in different categories, in Khmer
letters, transliterations and their meaning in English. If you
are not sure how to pronounce any particular word, you can show
the Khmer word to your Cambodian colleague, s/he will certainly
able to assist you.
